ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORITY - ETA
See: Australian Electronic Travel Authority
The ETA is an electronically-stored authority for travel to Australia for a short-term tourist or business entry. It replaces the visa label or stamp in a passport and removes the need for application forms.
You can apply for an ETA only if you are outside Australia and hold an ETA-eligible passport. The list of ETA-eligible passports is available on the above website. Israeli passports are not ETA-eligible.
You may apply for ETA directly on the Internet or ask your agent or airline company to issue one for you.
All travel agents and airlines using the following reservation systems can access the ETA system:
Abacus, Amadeus, Axess, Apollo, Gabriel, Galileo Canada, Galileo international, Infini, Sabre, Topas and Worldspan
by typing TIETAR , pressing ENTER and then following the instructions.
Training tutorials for travel agents and airline staff are available on the Technical Instructions section of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.
See: Technical Instructions.
If the ETA is approved, the ETA system will generate a message advising you of the visa validity, conditions, number of entries and period of stay. It is not necessary to fax a copy of the approval message to the Embassy for confirmation. The electronic approval on the screen (you may print and attach to your ticket) is sufficient. Furthermore, all airline companies landing in Australia are able to confirm that a passenger has an authority to travel to Australia at the time of check-in. Airline companies are able to contact DIAC in Australia 365 days a year if they encounter any visa related issues. The SITA address of DIAC is: CBRIXCR
If you are not comfortable travelling with an ETA, you should obtain a “traditional” visa using form 48R and paying the processing fee.
If the ETA system does not approve the ETA and generates the message "Refer the applicant to the Australian Embassy" the client must contact the Australian Embassy by fax: 03 691 5223 or email: immigration.telaviv@dfat.gov.au and provide details of their ETA application/problem, as well as their full name, date of birth and a copy of the personal particulars page of their passport. Our office will then look into the problem and contact the client, usually within three work days.
